Check the Smolt Trap

Every spring we put a smolt trap in Shelly Creek downstream from the pond on Martindale Road. We need volunteers to check the trap, count and measure the fish and record the data. Waders are a good idea, but not essential. Otherwise, rubber boots are required, unless you like cold, wet feet. Training is provided.

Location: The road allowance just down the hill from 319 Martindale Road, Parksville. This is about 200 metres south of the intersection of Martindale Road and Island Highway East. Martindale is the last cross street on Island Highway before you hit the Orange Bridge leaving downtown Parksville.

Please park well off the side of the road – there is more room on the east (uphill) side than the downhill side. Or park on Stanford Ave behind Cloverdale Paints. Please do not use their customer parking though.
