Englishman River Watershed Facilitated Discussion Invitation

MVIHES would like to formally invite you to attend the Englishman River watershed facilitated discussion session on Saturday, April 9th from 1:30 - 4:30 pm at the Shelly Road Center, 186 Shelly Rd (north of 19A, opposite side of Hwy from Parksville Chrysler about 1.5 blocks).  This is your opportunity to provide input on what you would like to see in a watershed plan and some ideas for workable solutions to current issues of concern based on common interests and visions.  Please RSVP if you plan to attend.  We would also welcome your written submissions.  For more information, or if you'd like to RSVP by phone, contact Patrick Walshe at 250-594-7002.

Real Estate Foundation Assists with Phase II of Groundwater Study

The Real Estate Foundation of BC has granted the MVIHES $10,000 to assist with Phase 2 of the Groundwater Mapping and Education Project. This second phase will continue from Phase 1 by defining the location and geometry of the sand and gravel aquifers in the lower section of the Englishman River down to the estuary. The project will fill an important knowledge gap about groundwater. It will also encourage the public to learn more about their groundwater in order to protect the watershed from activities that could jeopardize its rich ecosystem. The Regional District of Nanaimo has generously contributed $4,000 to the project as well.
